Nothing Stays in the Dark
Listen
Lyrics
Intro
Sparse piano, Moog sub-bass pulse, silence between notes
Verse 1
Every word you buried deep Every vow you couldn't keep Locked beneath the years of stone You thought the dark could hold its own
Pre-Chorus
But the ground is thin And the light gets in What was sealed away Will crack and face the day
Chorus
Nothing stays hidden Nothing stays in the dark Every secret is written On the pages of your heart The truth will rise like morning You can't stop the truth Nothing stays hidden forever Nothing stays in the dark
Verse 2
Every face you wore to hide Every war you kept inside The sins you buried, sworn to keep Will seep through cracks you thought too deep
Bridge
Voice and piano only — bare, still
There is nothing covered That will not be revealed No darkness deep enough To keep the light from burning through
Chorus
Nothing stays hidden Nothing stays in the dark Every secret is written On the pages of your heart The truth will rise like morning You can't stop the truth Nothing stays hidden forever Nothing stays in the dark
Outro
Juno-106 arpeggio fades, sub-bass pulse slow decay
Nothing stays... Nothing stays...
The Story
“Nothing Stays in the Dark” is the first single from Mikalnils. It is built on one idea: that nothing buried stays buried — the truth always rises.
The song walks through the things people seal away: words buried deep, vows that couldn’t be kept, the faces we wear to hide, the wars we keep inside. It does not condemn them. It just says, gently and certainly, that the ground is thin and the light gets in — what was locked beneath years of stone will crack and face the day.
The bridge says it plainly — there is nothing covered that will not be revealed — an old, scriptural line that runs straight to the heart of the song. For Mikalnils, that is not a threat but a kind of mercy: the dark was never strong enough to keep the light out.
Behind the Sound
The track is tuned to 432 Hz and built from a small, deliberate palette: sparse piano with silence left between the notes, a Moog sub-bass pulse underneath, and a Juno-106 arpeggio that surfaces and slowly decays. The bridge strips back to voice and piano alone — bare and still — so the line at the centre of the song lands with nothing in its way. Analog warmth, close-mic intimacy, room to breathe.
